The wonder of winter

As the trees shed their leaves and shake off the last signs of the sunshine season, we’re preparing for the colder months ahead. Soon we’ll be switching over from al fresco celebrations to intimate indoor gatherings. Think about what the chilly weather brings with it – a comforting, cozy atmosphere, winter coats, fireplace huddles and steaming gluhwein. A magical time indeed! We think saying your I do’s in winter is utterly romantic. Here are a few of our tips to make the most of the season:

In wintertime roads might be wet and the weather overcast, so add a few minutes between your ceremony and reception for all guests to travel safely to the venue.

Welcome your guests on arrival at the reception with warm canapés, sherry or a steaming cup of gluhwein.

Set the mood with candles or fairy lights. The soft light will add warmth and ambience to your celebration.

“Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home.” – Edith Sitwell

Make use of blankets and heaters to keep guests warm, especially if part of your celebration takes place outside. Blankets also make for a great gift – personalise with embroidery or wrap with a pretty bow.

Incorporate the beauty of the winter season in your decor. Think eucalyptus, branches and floral arrangements in warm jewel tones.

Whether you’re the bride, part of the wedding party or a guest, covering up with warm accessories is a stylish and functional way to protect yourself from the cold.
